New Hampshire House Freedom Caucus Reacts to Actuarial Report Showing Medicaid Expansion is Destroying Individual Marketplace
Concord – The New Hampshire House Freedom Caucus (NHHFC) today responded to the release of an actuarial report showing that Medicaid expansion is massively driving up the costs of premiums in the individual marketplace. The report, prepared by Gorman Actuarial, showed that individuals buying policies in the exchange should expect 52% premium increases in 2018. As a result of these increases, the report suggests that between 5,300 and 13,200 individuals purchasing coverage will drop health coverage.
“President Obama told us that, under Obamacare, ‘if you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan.’ He did not say that you’d be able to AFFORD your health plan, and thousands of Granite Staters are going to get kicked off their health plans because of Obamacare Medicaid expansion. This is one more tragic example of the failures of Obamacare and the colossal mistake of expanding Medicaid under this disastrous law. Average citizens who are forced to buy health insurance under Obamacare now have the choice of paying hugely inflated premiums to subsidize Medicaid expansion or being forced to go uninsured because they can’t afford these absurdly high costs,” said Rep. JR Hoell (R-Dunbarton).
“Medicaid expansion has turned the American Dream on its head. As a result, hard-working American citizens are losing their coverage so that other people, many of whom don’t work, get taxpayer-funded health insurance. This is literally the worst possible message we can send to our citizens. It’s time to end this ridiculous scheme and restore the notion that the best way to move ahead is through hard work,” added Rep. Greg Hill (R-Northfield).
